The Commissioner of Labor and Industry is responsible for the inspection and certification of elevators, dumbwaiters, escalators, and moving walks throughout Maryland Code Public Safety Article, secs. The Board is a member of the National Council of Examiners of Engineers and Surveyors, which aids in the reciprocal licensing of surveyors and seeks to promote uniform standards of licensing in all states. Under this program, inspections are conducted in accordance with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers ASME Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators. To the Commissioner of Labor and Industry the Board formulates and proposes rules and regulations to prevent accidents and occupational diseases in every occupation or place of employment in Maryland. Registration with the Idaho Secretary of State's Office. With the approval of the Governor, the Commissioner of Labor and Industry is appointed by the Secretary of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation and holds office at the pleasure of the Secretary. The Board adopts regulations; issues licenses; conducts examinations; investigates complaints; and maintains a list of licensees.
